Can't boot from my 64GB exFAT card (SX230 HS camera)

I believe I've tried everything -- but I just can't seem to make my 64GB exFAT card bootable with CHDK on my SX230HS camera.

Can anyone help me get my SX230HS camera to boot CHDK from my 64GB exFAT card?

Notes:
  • Camera is SX230HS, firmware 1.01A
  • Card is "Komputer Bay" 64GB SDXC card, formatted as exFAT
  • Booting CHDK works great with another card of mine - an old 16 FAT32 card
  • Running CHDK works great using the "firmware update" method - with all my cards
  • I've tried making my 64GB exFAT card bootable using CHDK's "Make Card Bootable" menu
  • I've tried making my 64GB exFAT card bootable using EOScard.exe version 1.2
(I already accidentally posted my question in the DSLR forum, but it was pointed out to me that that was the wrong forum.  A reply on the DSLR forum said exFAT can't be made bootable for P&S cameras like my SX230.  Is this the case -- for non-DSLR cameras?)

Thanks for any advice!

As reyalp answered in the other post - you can't boot from exFat.

Reformat the card as FAT32 and it will work.

@geoffff

If you're on Windows, you will need an external program that will let you format cards > 32 GB as FAT32,
because the built-in format won't let you.
Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd provide both a GUI and
a command line program to do just that (with source code, GPL licensed)

hope that helps,

wim

While this seems to be resolved, one thing I'm curious about is does the SX230HS format the card as exFAT or did you do that on Windows ?   (I'm going to need to update the wiki I think http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card )

Bingo!  Their "guiformat.exe" utility works great!  Now I have 64GB as FAT32.  Thanks so much!

Yes, that does appear to be the case.  If I use the above utility to format the 64GB card as FAT32, and then format it using the camera, the result is the formatting goes back to exFAT.

And, FYI, with my 64GB card now FAT32 instead of exFAT, I successfully made it bootable to CHDK using the instructions on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card
