Assuming the low address is at the top, this is probably as expected. The camera keeps calibration data, settings, crash logs etc in the same flash memory that serves as "ROM"

What you are seeing is normal.  At the end of the Canon code there is typically an area that changes somewhat - camera configuration variable and things like that are store there.    Beyond that is typically unused memory.

Thank you for your reply, now I can go to sleep in peace.

Used the scripts included in the prealpha02:
llibtst: OK
setmode: OK
ubtest: OK
:D nafraf did a great job!

The logfiles are in the zip.

@nafnaf
I also got a sx240 101a and I'm interested to test the prealpha version as well.
Can you provide me a link?

@bird
I sent the link via PM.

The patch was submitted today. CHDK for sx240 1.01a should be included in the autobuild server in a couple of days.

I've been away for awhile and I see that a lot has been done on the Sx240 HS port. Thanks to everyone.

I downloaded the 101a version from the autobuild server but have run into a problem. No matter what I do when I try to execute the firmware update I get a message "Update File error!!!"

Now to make sure the sd card was ok and that i was following instructions correctly, I decided to try CHDK on my kids SD1200 IS. It loaded perfectly.

I tried 3 different sd cards on the SX240. Same message.

I have tried every way that is listed in the documentation, using both the complete and the small versions but I always get the same message. I checked the formatting and it is FAT32.

Any suggestions.

That usually means you have downloaded the wrong firmware version of CHDK for your camera.

What's curious is that there is no port for 1.01a of the sx240hs in the svn - just 1.00a & 1.00c.
But there seems to be a file in the autobuild.

Update :   I believe the sx240 1.01a version is almost identical to the 1.01a of the  sx260hs so its just copied from there.  However,  the readme.txt file for the sx240 indicates that "firmware update" booting will not work as there is a platform id difference between the two cameras.

Looks like you may have to go with the "sd card lock" autobooting method.

There is an error in PLATFORMID for sx240 101a, it was copied from sx260. I forgot to check it.
I'll submit the patch.

Waterwingz, maybe you need to run "svn update" :)

1.01a, worked for me.  Ran an hdr script, dng works, tv override worked.  Play button activates.
I looked at the raws, I think I'm getting 16 bit data.  I used this:
Code: [Select]
dcraw -r 1 1 1 1 -M -o 0 -D -j -4 CRW_0030.DNG
convert CRW_0030.pgm -fx "u*256" crw_0030.png
Which should get the lower 8 bits of the raw sensor, without demosaicing.

For a dark frame of 60s, ISO100, optics=26c I got
78-180 values of the pixels
mean 128
median 128
standard deviation 2.6

I noticed some horizontal lines, that would be readout line noise.  The noise is pretty even.  As a color photo is has even color.
