My SX240HS freezes when using ND filter. CHDK ve.1.2

My camera freezes almost every time when I use ND filter. First I thought that was RAM problem, but I turned off every special or advanced options in CHDK's and original cameras menu, but no changes. Tried to reinstall the CHDK, but the same result. And CHDK firmware version, that I use, is compatible to my camera firmware.

I don't think turning off options in the menu will change memory usage much (though I haven't really investigated this, so I could be wrong).

How much free memory does your camera have on startup? You can check in the chdk misc menu.

That said, the ND filter shouldn't change this much. A bug in the port seems more likely.

If you can get a romlog from the crash, that might also help us track it down. See  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Debugging#Camera_crash_logs_.28romlog.29
Don't forget what the H stands for.

This is somewhat unusual as the ND filter position is simply set on all cameras by poking a value into the correct propset value.   Seems somewhat unusual that the sx240 would work differently.

That doesn't really free up any RAM but it was a good idea.

So tell us a bit more about what you were doing?  Are you trying to control the ND filter with a script or from the CHDK menu?  Does it hang if you set it to In and to Out ?  When you say hang,  does that mean the camera shuts down after a while or just locks up a sits there.  If it shuts down (crashes) then a ROM crash log from the CHDK Debug menu might give us some clues if you post it here.

Update:  is your problem related to your other post @ http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10694

Hi,

is there any chance to turn off the Display while using the intervall.bas script (it drains the battery pretty quick while doing timelapse)?

And how do i set the camera to manual focus? I activated ManFocus in the CHDK Main Menu, however the camera still focuses before every shot  :(

Thanks!

You might find this interesting : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=9049

Adding the set_backlight function to scripts running under CHDK 1.2.0 will do what you want.  If you run the dev version of CHDK, you can use the new set_lcd_display function, which turns off more than just the backlight and does not let the camera turn the backlight back on after each shot.

Update :  modified scripts attached
