I should have mentioned my intension is to build a time-lapse camera for a construction build.

Generally speaking, Canon does not provide the ability to upgrade camera firmware versions unless there is a major bug.  So if there is an update available from Canon, it's usually worth doing (assuming there is a matching CHDK release for that version).

I did a quick Google search and I could not find any Canon firmware upgrades for the G1X.  So you don't have any options here.

Note that CHDK does not modify the camera firmware in any way. You need to use the exact CHDK version that matches your existing firmware.

This script was written for just such a project :  ultimate.lua
