Can't run scripts!

Greetings!

I was using CHDK a little a while ago, but I want to get into it more now that I have a camera dedicated to the task.

The problem I'm having, though, is that I can't load any scripts!

I think I did everything right. I downloaded the correct version of CHDK, formatted a 2GB SD card as FAT16, set up automatic boot, all with no problems.

But when I go into the CHDK menu > Scripting parameters > Load script from file, then click on the "CHDK" folder, I get booted back out to the "Scripting parameters" folder! Nothing happens!

What am I doing wrong here? I've been searching for hours, and I can't find anyone else with the same issue. I guess my Google-fu is weak...

Did you try to put this script into another directory? Did you try to use file browser itself to navigate in folders?

Which camera do you have? Which firmware version? Which CHDK?

A lot of questions, but they are very important ;)

Thanks for the response! :)

Im not sure what you mean by the file browser. I thought that was what i was in...

The camera is the SD1000, firmware and chdk version 1.01a.

I haven't tried a different directory yet...

@Dignan17

Note that what you did just selects the script; to make the camera run it:
- leave the CHDK menu
- if you are in play mode, switch to shooting mode
- press the <alt> button ( PRINT on this camera )
- watch bottom left of screen for script console output -> script name appears
- press the shutter button to start/stop the script
- to get back to 'normal' shooting mode, press <alt> again

hope that helps,

wim

PS To supply meaningfull info on your CHDK version, please quote the info from:

But when I go into the CHDK menu > Scripting parameters > Load script from file, then click on the "CHDK" folder, I get booted back out to the "Scripting parameters" folder! Nothing happens!
Two things to try:
- can you enter the CHDK (or any other) folder with Miscellaneous stuff -> File browser?
- try to place a script into the folder "Load script from file" opens with, and load it from there (this is a workaround)

Thanks for the troubleshooting help!

- The same thing happened when I tried to enter the CHDK folder via the File Manager. It just popped me back out to the menu.
- I placed both of the scripts I want to use in the root, which is the only place I'm able to get to, and I was able to load them from there without a problem.

I don't mind using these scripts from the root, since for now I'm only really interested in two of them, but I do like to be digitally organized and have everything in the right place. Plus, it worries me that there might be something else wrong with my setup.

Are the folders marked with "< dir >" in the file manager / file open dialog?

Can you try with another sd card?

Explanation: normally, you can leave the file open dialog with:
- exiting ALT mode
- pressing the Menu button (this means "cancel")
- pressing the Set button over a regular file (this should open the selected file)

Just to be sure... Which button do you use to 'enter' the directory? To go inside or set the file use FUNC/SET button. For me it seems you are pressing the MENU button, which ends the file browser (and many other apps in CHDK)...
