The person who wrote that article also converted the Fudgey lighting script into MDFB2013.lua   It's quite a bit more up-to-date but uses the same approach as the original script.   

FWIW all CHDK motion scripts call the same underlying function ( md_detect_motion() ) so what works for one should work for them all.

Yes, last version is the one I installed on my SX510HS. :)
So, it's time to dig deeply in settings.  :D
Started again to love my little camera. Now it's my best friend, though I have two other, much more headlined: Canon 550D and Ply E-PL3.
