Just noticed these while looking at phil's dng 1.3 change:

These date and gps values show garbage characters in picasa properties, so this isn't purely cosmetic. Note this is on a camera without GPS, using the latest trunk.

dng_validate is included in the DNG SDK http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4529
