ELPH 500 HS 1.01b Dump Available

Hi, I'm a newbie to CHDK forum. I recently bought a ELPH 500 HS, the firmware version is 1.01b which is not yet available in the build.

Here is the link to Canon ELPH 500 HS 1.01b firmware dump I obtained using udumper:

http://www.filedropper.com/elph500hs101b

PRIMARY.BIN and CBDUMPER.LOG are in the zip file together. The original PRIMARY.BIN is 16MB, the compressed zip file is about 3.5MB.

I hope that someone can help port this dump as I am not a programmer but I'm more than happy to test the alpha versions and give feedback.

Thank you very much!

Gil

Sometime other firmware versions will work - a different version may only have changes in the data (e.g. a language string change)
It's worth trying the 1.01a and 1.01c versions on your camera just in case.

The 1.01C version should work on the 1.01B, no changes in the relevant code area...

Added the

full 16MB dump (dumped with cBasic udumper) by Gil He from this forum post to the box.net/chdk repository.

Slow continuous mode

I've been using ELPH 500 for couple days now and it works great. However, when CHDK is loaded the fps rate in continuous mode drops significantly. Basically, this is the same issue I had with my SX220, which after some discussion was explained by how CHDK uses the memory. See here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6241.msg84240#msg84240

I am currently using the following build ixus310_elph500hs-101a-1.0.0-1825-full_BETA

Would it possible to create a build for ELPH500 that does not place CHDK in exmem?

Many thanks,
Nick

Here you go : https://www.box.com/s/c268a42e860e05a33d67

However, you can probably assume you will have memory issues causing strange behaviour.  Stay away from RAW, edge overlay, zebra ....

Unfortunately this does not start on my camera. When powered up I see Canon's logo for a second or two then the screen goes black. Any chance you could review the build?

The IXUS 310 (Elph 500 HS) does not have enough memory to run CHDK unless it is using EXMEM.

Bummer... Is it possible to make a build without some of the heavy functions? What I basically need is to trigger the camera via USB remote. I fly these on RC helicopters and while it is possible to use a servo, it is not always reliable. CHDK is much better solution ...

Not much to check on there - same build I use for my cameras (they don't use exmem).   What you see is pretty consistent with CHDK running out of memory after booting though.

Here's a build of the dev trunk for your camera.   It uses modules so should be a bit smaller.

Although if philmoz says its still too big then I guess you are out of luck.

Update :   Here's the stable version with everything disabled that can be disabled.  The diskboot.bin file is quite a bit smaller - see if it will work for you ?
