A1100IS and wrong firmware?

Hello everyone,
I'm an owner of Canon A1100IS and got interested in CHDK. From what I read in the Wiki, there is a beta which supports my camera but it's said to be working with 1.00C only. When I check my FW version, it says I have 1.00A. Is it just because I have a European version and CHDK will run just fine or it's more serious and I may damage my camera trying to load CHDK? If so, should I somehow update my camera to 1.00C?

The 1.00C version of CHDK for the A1100 might work - sometimes that happens if the changes between firmware versions are minor.   If its doesn't,  then your camera will typically just hang, requiring removal of the battery to get it restarted.   There is some risk that when it hangs, something bad could happen but the risk is small based on experience with other cameras.

Unless Canon provides an official update,  there is no way to do this.  Sorry.

So if using the 1.00c version does not work,  you will basically have to create a port yourself or wait for somebody else to do one.

And what risk is there, to be exact? Can such a thing brick my camera permanently or just cause some crash which I should be able to get rid of just by getting back to the original, clean FW?

There is no exact answer but here's a good place to start : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._Can_CHDK_damage_your_camera.C2.A0.3F

Yes.

CHDK does not change  your camera F/W - each time you start your camera its loaded into RAM and runs there.  Remove CHDK from your SD card and you are back to your original state the next time you power on. The risk you run with CHDK (and in loading a version that does not match your camera) is that the program crashes and when it does so,  it jumps to some random memory address that causes it to execute instructions that overwrite the EEPROM or cause the hardware I/O to physically damage the camera.   So far,  there have been no documented cases of this happening but its possible.

Sorry for digging it out but I have to ask. Did someone try this? Installing 1.00C on 1.00A camera? I have 1.00A and really want to use it but it would be cool to have some confirmation.
