OK....I couldn't wait any longer so i came home early!

OK...here are the results of running script 1b.... its pretty much as i said in my initial post.... it does say "MultiMovie 1b" at the bottom left, bc that is the name programmed into the script from here... http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Continuous_Video_Scripts  .... i then hit the shutter button....it starts recording and DOES SAY   ***STARTED*** with "segment started" under it like you asked.... and then when it hits the 2 minute mark in this case, it simply stops recording and thats it.... it does create a 2 minute video file, but thats it....

in the next post i will tell you the results of running Script 2.... which is actually very interesting, even though its still not working....

OK.... Script 2...

1.  When i push the shutter button, it actually takes a picture....and this is where its really weird..... it actually appears to be working, bc it says "segment started" and there is a counter that shows up at the bottom and it starts counting down backwards from 2 minutes, which is what i have it set at now....HOWEVER.... the Red Record button never comes on.....ALSO, when it hits zero on the reverse counter it takes a picture & starts over like it should counting down from 2 minutes....however the red record button never comes on....

when i stop everything and go to the card to see what i have.... it has only taken pictures...

SO..... it appears as though it is confusing taking a picture and actually recording video... I tried hitting the Record button instead of pushing the shutter button, but it does nothing.....

thoughts????

Since your cam has a dedicated video button, you need a script that is aware of that - those are 1b and 3 on that wikia page.

CHDK on your camera doesn't support (and doesn't need) multiple partitions. It can autoboot from FAT16 and FAT32 cards.

Thank you....you just made me realize i was wrong about the SDMinste thing i said... I did actually use Stick to program my card...i just dropped a picture into it and it pretty much did the rest.... and yes, it auto boots....

regarding your 1st part.... I did try Script 1b and posted the results right before the Script 2 post... & in regards to Script 2, I don't see anywhere where it says its not for a cam w separate video button...although that makes sense after the results i got....

I will try Script 3 now....thanks so much...

OK Script 3..... it seems to work, well not really .... it recorded up to the 16+ minute mark then cut off...pretty much the same as without CHDK....

So actually its making me wonder...what is the point of Script 3?  Do you have to manually stop with MENU button and restart with SET button? 

In the script menu under "ExtendedVideo"... it says "Auto (re)start [1]      [   x]"   ..... where i assumed x to equal the number of minutes before restarting ... so i entered 2....well, it obviously went passed that and restarted at the maxout time of 16+ minutes.....

hmmmmm....thoughts?

You can cleanly exit the script with MENU, SET is for starting/stopping recording while the script is running (only when automatic recording restart is not enabled).

That's an on/off option, enter 1 to activate it, 0 to disable it. Below that line, you get "Time in s 0=max", enter the desired recording time limit there (in seconds).

OK..got it.... so then what happens if i do [1] to turn it on?  when does it automatically restart....when it reaches the time in the max box below?  ...like, if i put [120], it will automatically restart in 2 minutes?

OK...yep....that was it.... it restarts on its own....but it looks like it loses about 3-5 seconds in between stopping and starting again.... that kinda sux, but better than anything else so far...

do any of these options do an instantaneous, or as close to possible, stop/start record?

Yes, unfortunately, the cam needs some time to finalize the recorded video file - it can't be avoided.

its a shame this "file spanning" thing i've been reading about isn't possible to do with scripting....
