FastStone Image Viewer v4.6 CRW vs JPG Size?

Have a Canon A570IS and am using FastStone Image Viewer v4.6 http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

Noticed that my CHDK RAW files (CRW) are 1/2 size of my JPGs.

CRW 1556 x 1164

JPG   3072 x 2304

Did a forum search using "FastStone Image Viewer" but did not find any mention of this.  Did find mention of this problem with XNView and due to incorrect settings.

Am guessing I somehow have incorrect CRW setting with FastStone Image Viewer v4.6.  Never noticed this problem with earlier versions.

Would be glad to send a same Photo CRW and JPG if anyone wants.

Hope someone else had this problem and corrected it.

Couple of questions :

1) What camera are you using?  A570 - doh.
2) What is the actual file size of the JPG and corresponding RAW files ?
3) Please post the pictures to something like www.box.com.

Noticed that my CHDK RAW files (CRW) are 1/2 size of my JPGs.
CHDK RAW files are always "full" size; for better performance, most viewers shows RAW images only as thumbnails or 1/2-sized by default - also FSViewer.

So adjust the setting to your needs in the viewer's preferences, in FSViewer you'll find it in the RAW preferences tab

-> press F12 key, select the "RAW" tab, set "View RAW files in:" to "Actual size (slow)"

You can also press the "A" key to show the current RAW image in full size...

Hi fe50,

Thanks for your detailed instructions!

My FastStone v 4.6 RAW setting for CHDK was"Embedded Preview Image"  (never checked the older versions) in addition to viewing it also used this smaller size when Saved the single Cropped photo. Noticed that Batch Processing is listed as "Actual Size" so if only use it no problem.

"You can also press the "A" key to show the current RAW image in full size..."  Thanks for the tip!

Ken
