Help with Canon SX 10 IS

Hello,

My name is Mike, and I'm new here at CHDK.
I was trying to find out in what section I should ask my question, and
I ended up here.

I have a Canon SX 10 IS firmware 1.01A.
I was looking for a build for my camera but it seems there is no build
for it yet,
Is that correct?
What is strange is that in the example they use to show how to read
the firmware number, they use this model of camera!!!
But it does not appear on any of the lists I saw.

example used on one of the pages (sx10is-100e-1.03x-1806-full_BETA.zip)

So I just want to confirm with someone who would know,
if I am correct in thinking that there is no help for this model?
In case it's important, I work on a Mac.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
Mike

There is a build for the SX10 1.01A. Why not use my ACID app - it will download the right buikd for you. And on a Mac you can use my SDMInst app to install it (it will install CHDK as well as SDM).

Thank you ZENO,

I followed the steps in those two links, and it's working.
The Logo shows up when I turn the camera on.

If it's not to much trouble can you refer me to a page that will explain how to use the new functions?

My main reason for installing the CHDK on my camera, was that I was maxed out at 15 seconds exposure.
But on the camera monitor I can still only go to 15 seconds. I guess there must be a function to expand this?

Thank's in advance for any further help you can give me!

Yes, up to 2048 seconds on the SX10.
Note: the Canon OSD will only SHOW values from within the Canon firmware range, so the Canon OSD will show 15s also when you're using much longer exposure times. When you've set a CHDK override, you'll get an additional indicator like shown here.

Just set your exposure from CHDK's Override shutter speed menu, for example

Override shutter speed: [30]
Value factor:           [1]
Shutterspeed enum type: [Factor]

gives you an exposure of 30 seconds ([Override shutter speed] x [Value factor]).

Note: By default, on long exposures the camera takes a dark frame after each shot which doubles the total time, the camera shows "Busy" while doing this, read more here: Dark_Frame_Subtraction.

Thank's Fe50,

I have read the user manual, and things are starting to make sense!
I have applied a few options with success, including the shutter speed
as you had explained it.
Does using the CHDK menu (memory card) on the camera drain the
batteries faster than normal?
It seems the batteries went down faster than normal, but of course
it could be the use of the menu so often as I was learning!

Anyway thank you very much for the info.

Mike
