USB Remote recording indicator light

I'm trying to implement a USB remote with a powered LED that indicates when the camera is recording. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
There are remotes that have LEDs on them but are switch-driven, not necessarily confirming the camera is recording, and I know you can turn lights on the camera itself, but is there a way to send a signal from the camera to the USB remote?

Thanks for any help!

No, the USB remote is one way, it just applies voltage to the USB connector or not.

If you want two way communication, your options would be:
1) Hack hardware onto the camera, for example by controlling an LED on the camera and using that to trigger a photodiode which controls the LED on your remote, or just cutting out the LED and wiring it remotely.
2) Use the PTP extension to establish an actual USB protocol connection. This would mean your remote would have to be a computer or micro-controller with USB host capability and a full USB and PTP software stack.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks for the clarification.

I had been thinking about grabbing the camera's LED wiring and just routing that up to the switch. I will probably go that route.

Your second option is interesting however, I hadn't thought about it that way. I'm going to look more into that as well.
