CR2 vs. DNG vs. JPG file downloading

I've noticed that in-camera DNG's from my SX130 IS saved with a CR2 extension download correctly using Canon Camera Window, while those from my S3 IS do not.  Is there some reason (unknown to me) why Canon Camera Window sees these CR2 files from some models and not others?

Yes, I'm aware I could use a card reader (and do) to download these files, but it's a matter of convenience to be able to use Canon Camera Window for downloading all my JPEG and DNG files at the same time.

It's a long shot; but Canon used to use the .CRW extension around the time of the S3 before changing to .CR2. Perhaps try .CRW on the S3 and see what happens.

S3 should also support downloading with DNG extension, if you select "dng extension" in the DNG section and  enable "DNG visible via USB" in the miscellaneous menu. I'm not sure why the second one isn't in the DNG section...

The prefix also matters to the canon firmware. I would suggest CRW_nnnn.CRW or CRW_nnnn.DNG. This post has some details http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=2045.msg18862#msg18862

The older cameras only recognize CRW, not CR2.

Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

Strangely, the S3 doesn't seem to follow the rules.  Yes, I could download the CRW (DNG) files through USB using Windows Explorer, but not via Canon CameraWindow, like I can with the SX130 CR2 (DNG) files.  I think I've tried every possible combination of file prefix and extension, and have restarted the camera with each option change, still no go.  I will continue with this and report back any positive findings.  Thanks again.
