Now you just need to also copy on the "CHDK" folder which came with the CHDK download - you can do this in the normal way with a standard file browser. Then if you've made the card bootable it should work fine.

I can see a problem in your screenshot of SDMInst. Your card has two partitions. You can see from the SDMInst log that that the CHDK directory was copied to the 'acid108' FAT32 partition whereas I presume the DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FI2 files were copied to the small FAT16 'CANON_DC' partition.

I think you need to reformat the card as one partition. If the camera won't do this, you may need to use the Mac's DISKUTILITY to get rid of the two partitions, then use the camera to format the card as one FAT32 partition, then use SDMInst to mak it bootable.

As a check, when you put the card in the computer's card reader, if there are two partitions you'll see them both appear separately on the desktop.

Dave

PS what dbldash suggests will NOT cure your problem - the CHDK directory IS on the card already, it's just in the other partition.

A little explanation: The trick of partitioning the SD card was developed for older cameras like my S3.  It can only handle Fat 12/16, with a maximum of 4GB.  Partitioning allows CHDK to boot up in the native FAT12 partition, then switch to the larger FAT 32.  It's a wonderful stunt for older cameras like mine to be able to fill cards 8GB & larger.

Your SX40 uses FAT 32 out of the box, though, and is perfectly comfortable with bigger cards that weren't dreamed of when mine hit the market.

So use your partitioning software to change the card back to a single FAT 32 partition and load CHDK into it, as the experts above are saying.  Enjoy.

Not complaining here, but I put a couple of evenings into editing various wiki & forum posts into this :

CHDK Wiki : Prepare your SD card

and apparently its still too hard for people to follow.

Not sure what else to do?
