Hi to all , please i need help i am rc drone pilot, I need your help to assemble my usb cable to make the shot with my Canon S95, which will install over a drone.
I found a mini USB connector and I used a wire to the servo! by the time I soldered the pin 1 +V and pin 5 -V gnd ! this is enough or I need also of signal from my rc to usb cam cable? in which pin should I weld it? I have already installed chdk on my canon.
Thank you for help :)

If the servo connection can provide a 5V signal between pin 1 & 5 that can be turned on or off under rc control then what you have connected is enough.

I am not sure what you have connected to but two of the wires are supply and ground and are constanly on, the third is the control signal which is too short for CHDK to detect.

You would have to trigger a monostable from the control signal to give a pulse of about 30msec and connect that to USB V+.

You can buy a commercial device to do that.

Thank you guys for reply  :)
so please I do not understand what should I do? my cable is not ok? I have only connected + V Pin 1 and-V (GND) Pin 5.I need also another PIN ? :o
I would also like to know what I need to activate the menu ghdk of my canon for the shutt function with usb cable?
Thank you for help .

I think what Microfunguy is saying is that if the signal sent from the remote control to trigger shooting is too short, the camera will not detect it and so the pulse length will need to be extended somehow. On the other hand, if the signal is long enough there should be no problem as long as the drone outputs between about 3.5V and 5V.

In terms of whether you need to use any more pins, you don't - only the power pins 1 and 5 are used for this purpose.

To set up shooting with remote, go into scripting settings in ALT mode by pressing SET, then Remote Parameters, Enable Remote. There are also settings that determine how the remote operates and are different depending on whether you are using the stable or dev version of CHDK. Alternatively you can use a UBasic or Lua script for more advanced control.

As Microfunguy says, you have to put some sort of electronic circuit between the R/C receiver and the usb plug to turn the oscillating signal into either 0v or 5v depending on the frequency of oscillation (which varies as you move the R/C TX control). See my reply to your same question over in the KAP forum (where you've been pointed at the specific device you need to buy).

A DIY cheap solution is to take out the circuit board from and old servo and connect two resistors in place of the potentiometer and then connect the wires that go to the motor to a mini usb cable. But you could damage the camera if you don't know what you are doing.

A better solution would be to buy something like this switch and solder it to a mini usb cable. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8833

Hi dear ok i have use servo circuit and now i have shott :) from usb but i have one problem , when the rc switch is in OFF position The camera focuses continuously! maybe because the minimum current that flows even if the switch is off is regarded as a light press of the shutter of the camera.in OFF =0.44v(I can not reduce further)  in ON=4.16v .
How can I fix it? I have to change that parameter in CHDK so that the focus is removed with the little touch of the shutt button?
thank you for help.

When I responded to the original post, I mistakenly assumed he would have used something like this given the quality of the soldering job in his attached picture.   Live and learn.

The USB remote circuit does not work as you have described.  There is no "off",  "light touch"  (like half press) and "hard touch"  (like full press).     The camera only sees two states on the USB port -  off or on.

A voltage of 0.44v wil certainly be seen as "off".  In fact, anything less than about 2V will be seen as "off".   To be "on", the voltage usually has to be above 3V - with at least 4 volts needed on most cameras.

To help with your problem,  please describe the setting of each menu item in the USB Remote Parameters menu in CHDK.
