A610 buttons for exposure compensation - up/down istead of left right

Dear all,
I am using the latest CHDK stable release with my A610 and I am encountering strange behaviour of the buttons of the omniselecor. While in Non-CHKD mode "left" and "right" change exposure compensation by 1/3 steps, in CHDK mode, the "up" and "down" buttons do the same, while "left "and "right" do nothing.

This is especially uncomfortable, as the "up" button also changes flash behaviour and the "down" button changes to macro and manual focus at the same time. Script behaviour is affected as well.

Can I change the button mapping? Is this a bug in the A610 release? It doesn't show on my A570.

TIA
roland

I'm not clear what you mean by "CHDK mode". When you are in CHDK "alt" mode, the buttons have different meanings. If you are saying that just having CHDK loaded changes the behavior outside of alt mode, that sounds like a bug.

In alt mode, none of the keys should invoke original canon functions at all.

There are some CHDK shortcuts that run in alt mode when you half press the shutter. These are poorly conceived IMO and will be made optional in future versions, but I don't think this matches anything you are describing.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I think it's another background and not a bug.

Canon exposure correction: (+/- button)  and then left/right button
CHDK fast Ev switch: (half pressed shutter) + up/down button

He would like to use the left/right button also for the CHDK function, because you can accidentally also switch the focus and flash mode. It's a problem with all older A-class cameras.

I mean in non-ALT-Mode. The exposure correction changes with up and down, but the shutter is _not_ pressed half. After power-on, it shows this behaviour, not touching any button except up/down.
Left/right seem to have no function at all.

I would like to change to MF without any exposure correction.

If I'm understanding this correctly then it's definitely a bug. Except for the halfpress shortcuts mentioned, CHDK should not change the function of keys outside of alt mode.

This puzzling, this port is very old (in fact, I think a610 100e was the first ?) and shouldn't have changed in a long time.

Which canon firmware version does your a610 have ?

Do the keys behave as expected in the CHDK menus ? Up / down should move up / down the menus, and left/right should change settings ?

Which version of CHDK are you using (misc->build info) ?
Don't forget what the H stands for.

In the menu, the keys up/down-keys are working properly.
CHDK-Version is 1.0.0-1994
FW-Version is 100e

Here's a build of r1626, can you check if it shows the same behavior ?
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Just tried it - same as before.
I tried several modes, P, Tv, Av and scene modes all show the same behaviour, only M doesn't change exposure correction with up/down.

I'm still baffled by this.

When you say up/down change the Ev, do they show the Canon ev control ?

On my a540 (with or without CHDK, not in half shoot)
- In M, Tv etc left and right adjust the currently selected value, +/- changes which value is selected
- In P and similar modes where only ev is adjustable, I must press +/- in order for the EV adjust control to appear. Otherwise, left/right have no effect. Once the EV control appears, left/right change it.
- In all of the above cases, up cycles flash modes, down always cycles focus modes.

CHDK doesn't change any of this at all. If it does, that's a bug.

From what I can tell, the a540 should have very similar control layout to a610. It also uses much of the same code, although there's enough weird ifdefs something could be hiding in there. Aside from the change after the build I posted earlier, I don't see anything that would affect keyboard handling going back a really long time in the 1.0 branch.

Are you sure the build I posted actually got loaded ? If you are using a multi-partition card, it would be possible to get the wrong version. You can use the build info dialog in miscellaneous to confirm.
