Hi!
I use a sandisk ultraII 2gb card, formatted with CardTricks. When I use the benchmark, I get results around 6.5mb/s for raw write. These results are pretty consistent. HOWEVER, when I shoot raw, even with the smallest jpeg size, it takes around 4 seconds to save! I've tried lots of things with that card... and the strangest thing is that before trying to optimize the writing speeds, I was able to shoot 20 raw+jpeg superfine in 60 seconds, and now, I can only get 16 at best!!
I tried to change the cluster size, but it didn't change anything. Any guess why it is so slow!?

I just tried to download the original Grand's build, and it's intresting to note that the camera saves a raw+jpeg superfine in +- 2,5 seconds! That's already nicer!
Can someone explain that?

Better still!!!! I've done nothing special, just used Grand's original build on one of my sd ultraII cards and Allbest's latest build on the other same card. And now, abracadara, it's the opposite! It takes around 2.5 seconds to save on the latest allbest and around 4 secs on the original build!
I must say that i'm kinda lost :s

I applauded you for sheer tenacity! :o

Unfortunately, now I'll have to do some testing on the TX-1 to see if that makes a difference. :(

Just to make sure, are you sure you are really measuring the time it takes the camera to write? I.e. in each mode you have a fast shutter speed, low ISO and no dark frame reduction and review disabled?

Absolutely! Well, I did not write the precise timings on a board, but when I hold my chronograph, it always tells around 2.5~2.8 secs in P, Av, Tv and around 4.0 in M. And I always try to use the same shutter speeds. If fact, what I measure is the time the blue led is on. After that, I made a 60 second burst, and it always ended up with 16 pictures in M mode and 20 in P...

Probably is not because of the M mode but rather the JPEG quality. For my setup I usually use maximum resolution and minimum JPEG quality. The difference for low and high quality for JPEG is about 1-2 seconds (depending on scene). RAW overhead is about 1-2 seconds.
As a side note, perhaps digital zoom is not so useless - artifacts induced by camera software are usually less then those induced by computer software when zooming on the original image, this has also to do with JPEG quality. Although for RAW this might be pointless.

No. Nothing to do with jpeg quality. Related to M mode.
