Newbie Question

Hi,  I build motion activated wildlife cameras. I was looking at using some of the Cannon cameras. the cameras I am interested in are pretty slow on start up (from power on to shutter) I was wondering if there is a way using CHDK to keep the lens extended on a camera all the time. (not retracting when shut off). Also is there a way to get rid of any welcome screens? These things would help make my cameras faster for catching wildlife.  Thanks any help is appreciated.

Sorry - no.

Again .. no.

I assume you are trying to extend battery life by turning the camera on & off with an external motion detectors ?  I might be easier to look into an external battery and then setup CHDK to run the camera in as low power mode as possible.

no. im not worried about battery life too much. I just wanted the camera to turn on and snap a picture faster. I just thought there might be away to accomplish that through CHDK.

other than the above mentioned things. Is there anything that CHDK can do to speed up the time between: "on" and snapping a picture???

No .. not really.

CHDK needs a little bit time for loading from the SD card to the camera memory.

You can try an autostart script, which takes a photo at start up. Maybe this is faster than you.

This may be too obvious, but if battery life truly is no issue (i.e. you have an external power supply), you could just never power off.

(and to be overly precise, it is possible to shut down the camera with lens out...but once you power it on again the lens will be retracted so time from power-on to exposure will actually increase).
