Well, first of all, only some of CHDK capable cameras actually do wake up from USB. Each camera has their own build already so it wouldn't be a big problem to make CHDK easier for ones which do not.
Secondly, this feature could kick in after CHDK has started and noticed that there was no script to be autorun (or after the script finished; after all these remote start scripts will probably also shut down the camera when they finish now that we can do that).
Thirdly, I would imagine most autostart scripts will work in rec mode.
Fourthly, we could have an option to turn off the warnings to make sure you never see them and that they never cripple any functionality for those rare cases where it might.
And, seriously, these are the people who want their cars to start when they turn the key instead of refusing to start because one of the headlight lamps has failed. They also want their car to warn well before it runs out of gas. These are people who use their cars, computers and cameras as tools instead of conquests or indicators of their superior skill and memory. People who use their cameras 6 times a year and download the photos out of their memory cards twice a year. And they are also people who quickly forget things they don't run into often enough.
Technology should be here to simplify our life, not to make it harder. I know you hate everything automatic, but I'm truly happy my camera has automatic modes to fill for me when I'm either trying to shoot something that won't be there to be shot for more than a few seconds or when I'm just too drunk to manage all them tiny buttons.
