Problem with Allbest #37 and S3 USB auto detect

I just noticed that Allbest #37 has a problem with Windows XP USB Plug and Play.  The computer doesn't see the camera when I boot with Allbest and plug in, but it does see it when I plug in the camera without CHDK running.
This is not a problem with the computer, as I have an SD850 which works fine with Allbest #34.
This forces me to not use the auto-boot function of CHDK so I can download my pictures.

Do you have "enable remote (usb)" selected in script menu? I guess that would be the most obvious reason...

While this is not a bug but a clearly documented feature, it is something that should maybe be fixed if feasible (I wasted a few minutes on this myself, worried I had burnt my camera's USB port before I figured what the reason was).

For useability's sake, could USB voltage detection be modified so that it wouldn't trap USB unless CHDK actually makes use of the remote (ie is running a script, or if there are uses outside the script, maybe pop-up a warning telling you should disable the remote... at least if we're in play mode).

Well, first of all, only some of CHDK capable cameras actually do wake up from USB. Each camera has their own build already so it wouldn't be a big problem to make CHDK easier for ones which do not.

Secondly, this feature could kick in after CHDK has started and noticed that there was no script to be autorun (or after the script finished; after all these remote start scripts will probably also shut down the camera when they finish now that we can do that).

Thirdly, I would imagine most autostart scripts will work in rec mode.

Fourthly, we could have an option to turn off the warnings to make sure you never see them and that they never cripple any functionality for those rare cases where it might.

And, seriously, these are the people who want their cars to start when they turn the key instead of refusing to start because one of the headlight lamps has failed. They also want their car to warn well before it runs out of gas. These are people who use their cars, computers and cameras as tools instead of conquests or indicators of their superior skill and memory. People who use their cameras 6 times a year and download the photos out of their memory cards twice a year. And they are also people who quickly forget things they don't run into often enough.

Technology should be here to simplify our life, not to make it harder. I know you hate everything automatic, but I'm truly happy my camera has automatic modes to fill for me when I'm either trying to shoot something that won't be there to be shot for more than a few seconds or when I'm just too drunk to manage all them tiny buttons.

Regarding waking up the camera. I worked out all the USB voltage does is wake up the camera. I read the wiki and downloaded all the available pages with scripts. I decided to set the function in ALT to load a script automatically. I find that with the automatic load I cannot get back into ALT. Is there a simple routine I can add to the end of an existing script to tell that script to terminate and not load up automatically on the next wakeup?

I am not a programmer. For experimental purposes, at the moment I remove the sdram and delete the script on my computer and insert another script. I live in Perth, Australia. In a few weeks I may be going outback for either two or four weeks. I was going to buy more memory and automatic load the scripts for different jobs. If there is a simple way of amalgamating it all in one file it will be better. Am I asking to much of the camera software?
