Hi,

Enabling optical zoom when taking long exposures would be very interesting, because it would make possible to take some art photos. That option would 'emulate' having a physical zoom control like you normally have on DSLR's lens. Currently, zoom in/out buttons are blocked when image is being taken - is it possible to unblock them and create an option similar to 'Enable Optical Zoom' in 'Video operations'?

An explanation of doing this using a script is given here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=2518.0. This is done fairly simply by setting the camera to a long exposure, then running the script which releases the shutter then zooms as normal during the exposure.

I imagine it's probably possible to react to button presses during an exposure, but I'll have a try later to check. If this can be done then it should be fairly straightforward to add this functionality in C.

~~No.~~ I expect not, but maybe.

You can already do this with a script. Since this is may be a dangerous thing for the camera (lens mechanics might not be in a safe state to move during exposure) I don't think it should be a standard CHDK feature.
