I updated the wiki to include some key directions. Its a great tool once you get started but its install requirements are quite particular to it and the error messages do little to explain what went wrong.

thanks, MUCH quicker way to get started.

CHDK-Shell-v220 (update version)

  • fixed: bug in install routines - the devkit dialog would sometimes disappear behind existing windows ...

  • changed: program is now compiled with latest AutoIt release (3.3.0.0)

  • added: better garbage collection, program now uses 0.8 - 1.3 MB of memory instead of 2 - 8 MB

cheers,

wim

Hi fe50 !

yeah, i did, looks like the holidays are over, and it's back to work  :D

first plan is to add Vista to the allowed OS list, and to make it do the makefile makefile.inc substitution;
that's easy enough, and should get done today.

once that's done, I'll try to adapt the GCC builds ...

CHDK-Shell-v221 (update version)

  • added: first attempts at Vista & Win 2008 support - should be identical to 2.20 for
                     2000/XP/2003 users

(note: it's on page 2 of the drop, scroll down and click see more files ...)

cheers,

wim

CHDK-Shell-v222 (full version only)

  • added: Vista & Win 2008 support - there is only a 'full' version, because this one will     DEFINITELY NOT COMPILE with previous devkits.  Please note: I can only test this on Windows XP SP2 ATM, would appreciate it if users can report if it does work / not work on your OS

  • (note: it's on page 2 of the drop, scroll down and click see more files ...)

cheers,

wim

CHDK-Shell-v223 (update version)

  • fixed: z-ordering for 'Compile Options' and 'Set Paths' windows

  • changed: compiled with AutoIt 3.3.1.1 beta to allow optimising program memory footprint

  • note: needs the changed devkits from v. 2.22 - do not use to update from 2.21 and lower

  • (note: it's on page 2 of the drop, scroll down and click see more files ...)

cheers,

wim

CHDK-Shell-v222 (update version)
I just ran this version in Windows 7 beta (not the RC) and at least the application seems to work. It was also able to update to the latest trunk but compiling of some firmware failed (randomly checked one).

Edit, for some reason I missed the version 223 when I downloaded it, 223 complains about win_7, 222 does not...
so the stuff below is about version 222

It is the first time that I am looking into compiling CHDK, I never even used it since my camera is not supported yet.
Therefore I will just post the log:
Code: [Select]
========== D:\SOFTIES\CANON\CHDK\GUI\TRUNK\TRUNK790\BIN\LOGS\ERR-SX110IS-100B.TXT ==========

      0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32 error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x3B0000, State 0x10000

      0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32 error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x3B0000, State 0x10000
D:\Softies\canon\CHDK\gui\gcc4\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 error 0
gmake: *** [infoline] Error 1
      0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32 error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x3B0000, State 0x10000
D:\Softies\canon\CHDK\gui\gcc4\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 error 0
      0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32 error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x3B0000, State 0x10000
D:\Softies\canon\CHDK\gui\gcc4\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 error 0
gmake: *** [clean-recursive] Error 1

Edit2: running 223 under vista compatibility mode I get a similar error:
Code: [Select]
     0 [main] us 0 init_cheap: VirtualAlloc pointer is null, Win32 error 487
AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x71110000, RegionSize 0x3B0000, State 0x10000
D:\Softies\canon\CHDK\gui\gcc4\bin\uname.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 error 0

Seems to me like some trivial issue, maybe I am just missing a component...

If you want me to test something else, just let me know

Hi Darkness,
Thanks for testing !

Quote
... 223 complains about win_7, 222 does not ...

sounds logical: i wasn't testing for WIN_7 yet ;)  --> will be fixed in 2.24

Quote
... *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 error 0 ...

that sounds like trouble caused by a previous cygwin install, please do a search in your registry
for string "Cygnus" and delete any keys you find (if you want to use cygwin later, be sure to export
the keys to a .reg  before deleting them)

About further testing: maybe on a fresh WIN_7 RC in a virtual machine ? That would also
eliminate cygwin side effects (I plan to do that myself in a couple of days, when i'm back from
holidays)

cheers,

wim

PS sorry for late answer, but internet availability is severely limited by thunderstorms here lately ...
