I want to set my camera up on a tripod and take a series of still photographs over a 24 hour period at a predetermined interval, say every 5 minutes.

Is the CHDK firmware hack going to allow me to do this?

If so, please some instructions in plain language. I am pretty computer literate (Mac) but don't do jargon very well.

If CHDK is not going to help me achieve this outcome, what suggestions do members have on how I can do it?

You can do this with CHDK using an intervalometer script. A simple one is included with CHDK. You can find more information by searching the forum and/or wiki for intervalometer.

To run for 24 hours, you will also need an external power supply.
