Shoot many photos on one frame?

Hello all,

(I suspect that there is a special term for this, and it very possibly has been implemented a number of times, but I don't know what to look for) in cameras with film you can take many shoots on one film frame, without moving to the next film section; the result would be something like "ghosts" for moving objects and usual (unchanged) for static ones. Can it be done on simple digital cameras? And if it can, then how? The simple long exposure is not the option here, because with it some smearing will be seen for moving objects, and the whole scene will be too bright (how is it called? "overlighted"?). Merging many files with shots should be tricky and slow, may be there is a way to "accumulate" shots on the matrix and then write the resulting file once?

I've got Canon PowerShot A460, can it be done with this camera?

This is usually called "multiple exposure". Here's a thread that may interest you http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=4337.msg61335#msg61335

Note that if you don't need to take the exposures faster than the camera can save, you can get the same effect by stacking individual images later.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks a lot. I was interesting are there ways to make such "multiple exposure" with the camera only, not by combining RAW shots afterwards. As I saw, you must have a special CHDK compilation - with direct calls enabled.

Combining RAWs can be also done on camera only:) With CHDK filebrowser or CHDK scripting and without native calls.

I  believe the German version of CHDK is build with direct calls enabled. http://forum.chdk-treff.de/download_chdkde.php
Or at least,  it used to.   Maybe somebody can confirm that here.

Yes, that's right.

stable version 1.1: http://forum.chdk-treff.de/download_chdkde.php
developer version 1.2: http://forum.chdk-treff.de/download_modul.php

German is default menu language. Start the default script for changing the language to English. Needs english.lng in subdir CHDK/LANG.
