I'd recommend the following steps :

1) Format your 8G card as FAT32 (you should be able to do that in the camera - just check to make sure its FAT32 and not exFAT).
2) Use EOScard to make the SD card bootable : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/EOScard
3) Unzip the CHDK distribution to the SD card.
4) Lock the SD card, insert in camera and start camera.

I updated the wikia instructions so that other S100 users (and people testing development versions for any camera) will not have the same trouble.
