Quote "Note that S90 has native canon raw, so you could use that instead of DNG."

Do all your settings apply to native Raws?  eg, if I want no bad pixel fix, or no dark subtract?  They use compression 1/2 size DNG, so it would be nice.
I don't know, I've never had a camera with canon raw. Dark frame subtraction should work the same, don't know what canon does with bad pixels in raw.

WinXP File Explorer only // camera connected to another computer to download files // nothing to do with PTP.
PTP (regular, standard PTP as implemented by Canon, not the CHDK extension) is exactly what windows uses.

Idea: I will send you a long dump to see if you get the same.
I have reasonably functional vision, I can see from one screenshot that the palette is still messed up...

==>> I mentioned this before and will stress again here:  the liveview **interacts** with the UI palette.  That is a change in scene brightness and/or scene color affects the UI colors.
The UI overlay has an alpha component. Other than that, it has nothing to do with the live view.

Did you try my last dump?   Does that help identify the problem?

It looks like the palette address is still wrong. The flashing you see is because the "palette" is some random memory that changes from frame to frame.

Are you certain you are using the test2 build ? If you are still using a multi-partition card, you need to be sure the diskboot.bin gets on the small boot partition. I'm reasonably confident I got the right address the second time around, but I'm double checking now.

Quote "Dark frame subtraction should work the same"

CHDK affects both CHDK raw and JPG // that's **very** good.

Quote " don't know what canon does with bad pixels in raw"

I think yours doesn't affect bad pixel subtraction in Canon JPG & Canon RAW, and here it doesn't matter.

Quote "PTP (regular, standard PTP as implemented by Canon, not the CHDK extension) is exactly what windows uses."

edit: Sorry I meant CHDKPTP.

Yes.

Single partition FAT16 4GB, and I am having some problem with files naming, creating strange directories // will show you soon.

Camera untethered ... SOMETHING SERIOUS?

Please give me your opinion on this // I expect the multitude of file problems I am having are related.  Here is my best description as simply as possible:

If I put a FAT32 card w/o CHDK and JPGs into the S90
   a) from COLD, press ON, lens extends and goes into REC // OK
   b) from COLD, press PLAY and I see the last photo on the camera LCD // OK

If I put a FAT16 4GB card *with* CHDK and JPGs into the S90
   a) from COLD, press ON, lens does not extend (OK) and I see "No Image" (I should see an image, no?) ...
   b)      ... now I press SHOOT HALF, lens extends and goes into REC mode (normal I think).
   c) Here's where problem definitely occurs: from COLD, press PLAY, I get "No Image" (I should see the last image).

This is in contrast to SX110, where in both (a) and (c) I *do see* the last image.  I know the SX110 works correctly that way.

Show stopper .... I think this problem is also related to not being able to see files in WinXP File Explorer that I brought up earlier.

So ==>> put in CHDK and files become inaccessible both on the desktop computer (no CHDKPTP) and the camera itself when not connected to PC.

Could we solve this first?

Wow.  The hundreds of people using CHDK on the S90 for the last two years must have missed something.

So with your lead,  I put in the {2MB FAT12 *with stock build* CHDK + 8GB FAT32} card, took shot,  (camera only), switched it OFF and ON and the photo appears in play mode // OK normal.  I can switch REC|PLAY and look at the image.

Next I put in with the 4GB and the TEST-2 CHDK, I took a shot (camera only), switched it OFF and ON and "No Image."  I can't get at the image in PLAY mode, ie switching REC|PLAY always say "No Image."  But I know the image is on the card because I put it in the reader it's there // in silly directory at that.

So yes I think an anomaly has crept in between STOCK & TEST-2.

Can you give me a *full* build of TEST 2 ie TEST 2a, I will reformat and try it that way?

So what happens when you put the *with stock build* CHDK  on your 4G card ?
