There's a new standard for WIFI enabled SD cards that's far superior to the current EyeFi cards (that don't work that well with CHDK). The Toshiba FLashAir is the first card built to the new standard. It should be available in the US soon.

The new card allows communication between cameras (P2P), and some kind of interface to the camera that should be accessible to CHDK. This opens up many new possibilities, such as:

Transferring photos to a cheap second camera when the card fills up during a time lapse session. You could then manually change the cards in the 2nd camera when its card filled up.

Synchronizing multiple cameras: One (master) camera could signal any number of (slave) cameras to shoot at the same time, or one at a time to get a faster interval than a single camera could do.

It might also be possible to upload scripts and CHDK code to the card so you don't have to keep moving the card back and forth from the camera to the computer. Since it's built to a new standard future cards should work the same way, and competition should bring down the price.

Well the FlashAir cards are out and can be purchased on ebay for around $50 from just doing a quick search. I've had an eye-fi card working with CHDK on my canon S5 for a while, but I had to copy everything off the card, reformat it as FAT then copy everything back on it so it could auto-run chdk, luckily that all worked with no problem on a eye-fi card.

my question is... has anyone got chdk to auto-run on one of these toshiba two way wi-fi cards? I would buy one for one single purpose... if it would work.. to upload scripts to the card while it's still in the camera!!! it becomes quite tedious to remove the card, turn off write protect, put it in a card reader.. copy the file, remove from card reader, turn on write protect, put in camera... etc.. you all know what I mean. I made a few attempts to get lua development tools to work on my pc, and those all failed.. I just can't even get it to run.. granted I didn't spend a lot of time on it.. but it seems this would be an IDEAL way to tests scripts.. simply upload them to the 2 way wi-fi card and reboot the camera! $50 is a little much to spend on something that may or may not work, so I would really like to know if anyone has got chdk booting from one of these cards

I did get CHDK to run on the card, but the software doesn't support 2-way transfers. It's only an 8GB Class 6 card, so it's not fast enough or large enough for what I do. Hopefully, software will appear someday that connects these wifi cards to a computer as a disk drive, just like plugging the card into a card reader.

I have a question for you about the Eyefi cards. Their web site says that the wifi link is broken every time the camera takes a picture. Apparently, that's also the case with the new Canon wifi enabled cards. Have you tried the Eyefi feature where it will transfer pictures off the card and delete them, while taking pictures with a script?

As for transferring CHDK files both ways, the only way to do that is through a USB cable at the moment (see reyalp's link above). You don't have to remove the SD card or change the write protect tab on the card this way. Write protect tabs are pretty flimsy. I have 2 Transend SD cards where the tabs fell out, so the only way I can write to them is with CHDK (or tape over the tab spot).
