file size in A570?

I have decided to go ahead and purchase a Canon A570.

when I use chdk to save in raw, how big will the files be?

I have found some information that indicates that the 570 in Large 3072 x 2304 and in Superfine will produce 3MB files, and hence approximately 156 images per 512 mb card.

What percentage larger will CHDK's raw files be with this camera?  also approximately what size is the CHDK program on my SD card (or SDHD) so I can decide what size and quality card to get?     also will the saving of each image in the camera to the card be slowed down enough by CHDKs RAW mode so I would consider a more expensive high speed card (an expense I would like to avoid since I want more than one card) ?

Thanks.

Each camera has a maximum writing speed (independently if you use CHDK or not). So you should by an SD card capable of achieve that speed. That way you will keep the RAW file saving time to the minimum.

More than one card is a good idea. Once I went to a trip with 4 cards (2GB each) and one of them failed in the first day. I put it apart and continued with the other 3. When I got back home I recovered the photos of that card with software.
What would have happened with, say, just one 8GB SDHC card?

thank you both for the information and advice.

By the way I just noticed that the 590 has been out since the first of the year   it apparently is some "improvement" over the 570,     it has charcoal grey which looks better   havent compared all the specs but it looks pretty much comperable.

I suppose for just a few bucks more its woth getting.   the CHDK for that is under development so i will be patient.
It seems that at least one user has experienced some problem with chdk as getting more noise than jpegs   I did a search on CHDK with A570 and came up with that.

I will go ahead and get the 590 more than likely and be patient and if I dont get good results with CHDK I will live with it.  can be had for $150-160 on line so not too big an investment.

thanks again for the info!
