hi! a newbie here.
i'm having issued using chdk on my powershot a560. for some reason, my camera doesn't take pictures when using default.bas script. when i press the shutter, it says:
***started***
;)
***finished***
but doesn't take any pictures.
secondly, no zoom whatsoever while running any of the scripts (but takes pictures in other scripts besides default)
everything works when chdk is disabled

any suggestions on how to resolve these issues?

Well,  I have good news for you. Everything is working correctly. 

CHDK runs a script when you press the shutter button when you are in <ALT> mode.  The default script does precisely .. nothing.   If you want to use a script that takes some sort of shooting action,  you need to load that script.  The default script just prints what you saw on the LCD - it never tries to take a picture.  If you want to take a picture while CHDK is loaded then exit <ALT> mode and fire away !

waterwingz, thanks for pointing that the default script is not supposed to take pictures; i did not know that.
but the zoom problem still remains. i got the scripts from http://mighty-hoernsche.de/ i tried both complete and small versions - same problem.
one additional thing i noticed is that my camera doesn't autofocus when the shutter is pressed halfway when one of the scripts is running. however, it does focus and then take picture(s) when i press the shutter button all the way. does that happen in other cameras as well while running a chdk script? btw, my camera focuses fine when shutter button is pressed halfway with chdk disabled.

That's the CHDK download site. Does that mean you are using the simple scripts that come with the installation file ?

Perfectly normal.  That's because all the buttons (including the shutter) are "disabled" from normal operation when you are in <ALT> mode (including when you are running a script.)

That's a bug if true.  When you are in <ALT> mode,  pressing the shutter button all the way causes the current script to start. 

However, its possible to start a script and exit <ALT> mode with the script still running.  At that point, both the script and the Canon firmware will have access to the buttons.  What happens then depends on what the script is trying to do and which button you press.

yep, i'm using the scripts that were in the installation zip file I got from the chdk download page. Are there other sources I can get the scripts for my camera from?
