Recover second partition on SD card?

Hey,

I got some problems discovering the second partition on my SD card after following the guide on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Using_SDMinste_to_Create_Dual_Partition_SD_cards .

Everything worked fine until the step where I formatted the large partition on the SD card. After the formatting was done, and I clicked "switch partition" (so the small one became the 1st), SDminste couldn't locate the second partition any longer. I did do the last steps just to check that everything else worked, and it does (e.g., CHDK starts automatically when I boot my camera), BUT, the camera complains about the memory card being full, so the camera is also not possible to locate the second partition on 7.9 GB.

So the question now is, what to do? Any way to fix this SD card, or is it just to buy a new one?

Thanks in advance.

First at all - you don't have to buy new card. You can always format it on camera and then the card will be completely blank, as if it was just bought :) The option for format is somewhere in Canon menu.

If you didn't have any important data (and I assume this is the case) you can perform the installation procedure once again after in-camera format. Try to do this first and if this wil not work we'll see what to do next.

What camera are you using? Newer (post 2011) cameras don't require two partitions and can't switch between them. Instead you just need to format a single partition as FAT32 and make it bootable.

I believe that this is well explained (several times) on Prepare your SD card wiki page.   I added a warning note to the Using SDMinste wiki page.

Hi all, and thanks for your replies! Formatting the SD card in the camera with low-level format did the tricks, so now it's back to 8GB!

Also, sorry for my late reply. I wrote the post in a hurry before leaving for a festival this weekend, so I didn't have time to write all the info.

I have an old Canon SD850IS from 2008 that I use with CHDK in order to get a little more out of the photos. I've used to have CHDK on a single 8GB partition, but I thought I'd try to use two partitions so I could have it start automatically. But I think I'll just stick with the solution I used before (I know, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.. ;)).
