Is it possible to disable AF-assist beam when you half press shutter button, while you are recording video?

I can disable AF-assist beam from my camera settings, but  i don't want to. It's very helpful. However when I'm recording a video, red beam is very annoying

I'm not sure whether it is easy to really disable it, but it would be relatively easy to overwrite this beam by transparent rectangle (result would be erase of the beam). You can try to use drawings in the script. Just an idea, never tested.

per my comment on IRC .... you could probably hack this by having the spytask turn the AF Led off every 10 mSec ...
