questions regarding s3is

heya peeps, need some s3is owners' advice here:

i finally got my s3is by mail. from a reseller @ amazon that stated that the s3is is "as good as new" and served as a "sample camera" (dont know how to say that in english).
however, i just did the "How to get total number of shots taken by the camera" thing and in my display i see things like:
first "page":
Quote
Canon Powershot S3 IS
P-ID:311A PAL
Firmware Ver. GM1.00A
E18
Feb 22 2006 08:47:32

second "page":
Quote
Adj. Ver 001.011
ZoomLensError0004
2007.10.27 07:50:54

third page:
Quote
total shoot :13815

well. what do we have here. i guess the error is some kind of "show last entry in errorlogfile", right? meaning, on 27.10.07 the error ocurred. total shoot, well, how much can i rely on this value?
i think i got played, in a major way. what should i look out for to find out if there are some more things "hidden from me"? they say i got 2 whole years warranty, i dont know if i can trust that. the cam might be refurbished, eh? how do i find out?

thanks in advance, PhoX

p.s. other than that, s3is rocks.

@PhyrePhoX
Are you sure that you've got this camera from amazon and not from Barney?  :D

actually that was pretty funny, but somehow i couldnt laugh :D
did you ever have the e18 error, is it displayed in your s3is "error log"?
can i trust the shoot count? what should i test (functions etc) to find out if something is "broken"? either way, i will mail the reseller, theres gotta be a special discount in it, at least.

thanks for your replies.
well, does the sensor or other parts "wear off"? how do i compare my s3is to other people's s3is? tough [admin: avoid swearing please].
concerning "wear off": At least at dslrs they state things like "can shoot 20.000 pics without breaking" or something like that, due to the mechanical shutter. hmhm.

First of all, congratulations on your new acquisition. Now you have the perfect combination: Two CHDK enabled cameras, one slim you can take everywhere in your pocket and the other with huge zoom, greater F-stop range and swivel screen for dedicated photography treks.

I guess you already checked for dead pixels, scratches on the lens/screen...

As I understand the shoot count, it is possible to reset it but it's not possible to increase it without tacking an actual shot. So that 13815 figure represents the "at least" number of shots. Pretty far from "as good as new" and served as a "sample camera" IMO. I got 1 year with my S3 with around 5,000 shots.

But I think the number of shots taken is not a primary factor if you compare it with scratches in the body. If somebody drops the camera it is much worse than to take a thousand photographs. So, if I you don't see dropping scratches you can be happy with your camera. It means the previous owner took a lot of photos but also took good care of it.

P.S. Check the arrow pad (is that the correct name?), the button is painted grey, but the plastic is actually black, so if you see black in the edges it is a sign of wear.

See attached picture (shoot count & camera model). This is REAL screenshot, but CHDK (SetParameterData function) was used  ;)

I don't think that amazon guys are smart enough to compile a custom CHDK build just to increase that counter. ;)

I requested that somewhere else already, but what about a screenshoot function?

p.s. Yes, you can pretty much trust that shoot count. Mine's 16,201.

Far from P&S use. :D Mine is somewhere above 11600.
How many chdk-test-shoots are included?
