Hi There
Im new to this forum - but i thank you for all help in advance
I've succesfully installed CHDK for a A490, but i have extreme difficulties installing the port for the A1100 IS

I've tried to lovlevel format the SD in the camera - then making it bootable with the EOSCard program - then copy the CHDK port to the root of the card - insert it in the camera and make a boot from the RUN button on the camera - make a firmware update from the menu - but the camera just closes and there ar no new menus - i've altso tried vicevers - format, copy CHDK, insert and boot - but still nothing happens

The native firmware is 1.00 C

Any and every help would be appreciated, a waslktrhrough so to speak :-)

Thank you in advance

What size SD card are you using ?

The A1100 will only boot using the "SD Card Lock" method from an SD card formatted as FAT16 so you need to check that the camera created a FAT16 formatted partition and not a FAT32 one.  Also,  if your card is larger than 4G you will need to use a dual partition scheme for the "SD Card Lock" method.

If you are trying to load CHDK with the "firmware update" method,  then the format of the card does not matter - anything will work.   From your description, it seems that you have found the "Firmware Update" option in the Canon menus successfully ?   So you either have the wrong firmware version for your camera (although CHDK is only available for the 1.00C) or perhaps the ps.fi2 file in the CHDK distribution is invalid.

If its a problem with the ps.fi2 file,  you can still try the "SD card lock" autobooting method.  That method uses a different file to load CHDk from  (diskboot.bin).

The a1100 does not support the "Firmware update method" ,as I can see ps.fi2 is generated in the distribution zip,it has not happened before.

Like it says here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A1100IS

Sounds like the autobuild should not be generating a ps.fi2.

Thanks for the answers so far - but the things mentioned i already knew - i was well aware that in this version u cant use the manual boot method

I took a diskboot from februar this year, which made the booting function
Welll - now i can boot it with the locked card method - and it looks like everything is fine - the CHDK menu shows fine - but only in play - there is NO respons from the camera when trying to use on/off - and in play - i have to push for one second maybe 2 for the camera to function :-( - sigh - i've struggled with this for two whole days now -
