SX120 CHDK not working

SX120 CHDK not working

I have downloaded sx120is-100b-1.0.0-1697_BETA, expanded it, and put it on my SD card.

I followed the directions to a tee, and they state there will be a "vers.reg" file placed on the card. No such file.

It also states once I bring up my current version of firmware, I can hit the display button(while holding down the set button) to see more info...doesnt not do anything.

Lastly, when I go to "Firm. Update", and press go (set) the camera just shuts off.

What am I missing?

Correction...when I hit set to start the upgrade, it flashes a screen "Upgrade firmware version? 1.0.0.0 to 1.1.0.0?"

Then I hit okay, and the camera just turns off.

I suggest you to read the last few posts in the camera's porting thread. For a better overview, use the print view, scroll down to its end.
The magic file that lets you view the firmware version is vers.req or ver.req (ends with Q).

This version is very old. Try a recent version: http://mighty-hoernsche.de/

The firmware update method works not correctly for the SX120, try this solution: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=8328.msg88213#msg88213

Otherwise make your sd card bootable. Then CHDK starts automatically. Read more about preparing sd card here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

Cant get it to work...Ive gotten the latest software, made a ver.req file, tried all the suggestions, and even used EOScard to make it bootable, still no luck. My only guess is its not compatible with my firmware build which is 1.00b.

The SX120 was released before 2011. Therefore you need to start automatically a FAT16 formatted sd card or partition.

For a sd card <= 4GB use the program CardTricks. This program formet the sd card as FAT16 and make the card bootably with the right boot signature.

For a sd card > 4GB use the program SDMinste. read more about the program:

And remember, CHDK starts only when the sd card is locked.
