OK.
I ran the tests. Unfortunately, the A470 does not allow for increasing ISO over hardware limit.
We can set script to 3200 or 6400 but remains around 1600 ISO only.  :(

I've updated the meteor.lua script to take advantage of improvements in CHDK since it was first released.

download link >  meteor2.lua

Principal Changes
  • Removal of the "nasty hack" that converted seconds to only five discrete values ( 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 seconds)
  • Provides parameters for setting ISO sensitivity as well as aperture and ND filter positions
  • Adds focus at infinity options.
  • Adds configurable shot interval.
  • Zoom position can now be preset
  • LCD display off option
  • allows a choice of no dark frame, Canon darkframe (in camera),  CHDK darkframe (post processing)
Updated to revision 2.6 to fix a bug in the intervalometer code that would halt the script at midnight.

Update : all found a revised version by srsa_4c that handles early DryOS cameras properly so I integrated his changes as well.

... well... appendix options : shots starting time  and stop time (on sun set) would be like the icing on the cake ...  ::)

Nice catch. Dark frames would probably clear that purple haze up a fair bit.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Yes, the dark frame needed for DeepSky photography, I use DF with my DSLR 450d but in this case is not necessary because he just supports the work of highly sensitive CCTV cameras (Tayama, Watec) for meteors showers. Look sample : www.picasaweb.com/sp3uca.astro or on www.pkim.org site

@waterwingz : the best will be to name each file was saved as YY.DD.HH.mm.ss.JPG :) it is possible from script ?

I've never tried renaming files from a script but I believe it's possible with the Lua libraries. However, most Canon P&S cameras only allow the old 8.3 file naming convention (apparently due to Microsoft having possible patent protection on allowing longer names under FAT formats?) so your format would be too long.

Also, there are quite a few good PC software that allow file renaming based on time & data information from the image EXIF information so this does not seem like it's worth a lot of effort to implement & test.

meteor2.lua script very useful for me. I will test is. Currently only looked the code.

I have test script based on many users code for my sx110is. It has a log feature. Picture name, date, time, battery voltage, ccd temperature and exposure time recorded. This camera support extra long exposure mode. log useful with very long exposure for deep sky processing.

Dark frames important for good deep sky or other long exposure mode shots. Night time is "expensive". Shooting dark frames lot of time lost. With log feature win time. Dark frames depend on iso, tv value, and temperature. Older dark frames useful, but match the temperature from log.

If you like it, copy any code or idea to your script.

My test script:

Hello,

I want to use meteor2.lua on my G1x

About the known problems with ISO setting on G1x, it would be better to set the ISO with the canon firmware and set the parameter ISO on the script to None?

About setting focus to infinity

Code: [Select]
set_focus(50000)
Depending on the zoom of G1x and S110, I can set valid focus values > 100000.
So 50000 is not infinity on this cams.

Is it better to set

Code: [Select]
set_focus(-1) ?

Joerg
