You can use ufraw
http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/

or there is dcRAW-X
http://www.frostyplace.com/dcraw/

I also have an A570IS and I have found that RAW programs are selective as to which formats they will open.

It's not freeware, but Photoline 32 from www.pl32.com also runs on Macs and opens all these CHDK raw file formats.  Personally, I think it's far better than PhotoShop. Lots more features, better resampling algorithms, and it's a full 32-bit math platform. PhotoShop, even CS3, has been and always will be 16-bit math only. No better than any Windows 1.0 program. When you get into the 16-bit graphic images that leaves very little room to do any precision math on that level of data.

Actually ufraw (which is based of dcraw) also has the VNG, AHD, PPG, and Bilinear algorithms that PhotoLine uses.

GIMP opened the raw files up from my S3IS with no problem.  The latest version of gimp includes ufraw as a plug.  When the file is opened in gimp, the ufraw dialog window opens.  Ufraw has the camera profile, so it was easy to adjust the white balance.  I had to select tungsten in ufraw window for my test, because it was an indoor shot.  QTPFSGUI also opens the files directly, which I am using to make HDRs.  Both of these are open source.

To make the HDR correctly the white balance has to be corrected first.  I tried doing the HDR and then the white balance, and some colors (in my case blue) got blown out.  I did the white balance in ufraw/gimp, saved as an uncompressed tiff, and then made the HDR in qtpfsgui and IMHO it resulted in a significantly sharper final photo than using the jpeg off the camera.

I use RAW developper. It works great for BW. It's not free tough...

I tried Raw Photo Processor which I found from the FAQ at the CHDK Wiki. I just installed CHDK on my camera the other day and have only shot a couple of photos so far so I haven't done much w/the RPP software yet, but it seems pretty capable.

Is there no way to get dng4ps2 to compile from source on OSX?

I'm on a PPC Mac, so the alternative RAW converters are my only choice, and I'd rather convert to DNG and go through my usual PS based workflow if possible...

That would be an ideal solution for me also. Nealy all my workflow involves Nikon .nef files converted to .dng and if this dng4ps2 application converts the Canon files to .dng that would be brilliant.
