WICKS - a Windows Installer for CHDK and SDM

Installing CHDK or SDM on a Windows machine is a messy business - particularly on cards bigger than 4GB.

WICKS is an attempt to make it easier. It has pretty much the same features and UI as my SDMInst app (for Macs) and LICKS (for Linux).

The current version should be treated with caution - so far I've been the only tester and Windows XP is the only version of Windows I have. I'd welcome feedback, bug reports and suggestions.

Nice!  We have needed a replacement for CardTricks for a while now.

I'll play with it on a Win7 box on the weekend.

Is it "smart" enough to recognize exFAT cards and know they are not "bootable" ?

oops! It will certainly detect that its XFAT, and let you reformat as one or two FAT partitions, but looking at the code, if you don't ask it to format it won't diagnose that the card is not usable.

Has now been fixed! Thanks!

Good - its one of the things people struggle most with newer cameras and large SD cards.

Apologies if you've downloaded WICKS since I updated it - the zip file did not have the Wicks dll in it. It does now!

Nice program, thanks for that.

The program works fine, tested with win7 32bit home premium and a 8 GB SD card on a netbook with an inbuilt card reader.

It was my first try to create a multi partition system for the A720. All options are understandable. The first test was an immediate success. CHDK runs as multi partition variant with the A720.

The next test with the same card was the prapairing for the SX220 (FAT32 bootable). CHDK starts as expected.

I've noticed one small problem. The option 'Copy all files from' copy only diskboot.bin and ps.fi2 to the card. I miss the CHDK folder. CHDK/MODULES is absolutely necessary for CHDK.

Oops! It just copies DISKBOOT.BIN to the second partition. Version 1.02 (now up on website) fixes it.

Thanks for the bug report.

When running under win7 64b it start up but does not show a sdcard (Select card drive remains empty). When i click on 'Refresh' the status line on the bottom says "..... please wait" and thats  where it freezes (well, it just keeps waiting, i can still close it)

wickserr.txt has

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: ASSEngine.NInit()I
   at ASSEngine.NInit(Native Method)
   at ASSEngine.doInit(ASSEngine.java:44)

Win7 64B here too.  4G SD card.   I verified that I can r/w files on the SD card.

Says it finds a "Suitable" card but also says "No Writeable cards present".

@casrap - the zip file was missing the assengine.dll until yesterday, which explains your error message - download the latest version (1.02) and it should work.

@Waterwingz - not sure what the problem is  - could you check the debug option and do a refresh? The log window (and log file) should have a lot more info. Email to me and I'll take a look. IT looks as though the detection of read/write status is failing.
