Formatting SD cards...FAT16 or FAT32?

I've bought recently a 4GB TakeMS HyperSpeed 133x card, I'm not sure if it's fake so I just contacted the customer service.
Beside this I have tried to format it in FAT16 instead of using the standard FAT32, I had to do this via command line since normally FAT16 isn't supported on discs bigger than 2GB.
Can formatting a 4GB card using the FAT16 filesystem lead to some problems or file loss?
I've noticed a speed performance improving using FAT16 in place of FAT32 as u can see here:

      TakeMS HyperSpeed 133x, 4GB (FAT16)     6458     6942     4602     6606
     TakeMS HyperSpeed 133x, 4GB (FAT32)    4278    6144    5217    8233

I was expecting higher speeds for a 133x card.
Both the test were made with a freshly formatted card, the camera used is a PowerShot A630 with the latest AllBest build allbest-a630-100c-49
Any advice?

Can. :)
But nobody has faced with any problem yet.  8)
Therefore, the conclusion is "Can't".  ::)

Thanks for all you do, GrAnd!

Is everybody getting full (~4GB) capacity with FAT 16? I read somewhere to expect only 2GB.

Best,

carlos

I'm using the D10 beta, and it doesn't support card formatting as yet (as far as I can tell) so I went looking for another method.  I found MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-manager/sd-partitions.html, which seems to have done the trick on the 8Gb I'm using.

Still haven't gotten D10 beta to boot, though, gotta spend some more time with it.

Has anyone tried to partition a 8Gb SDHC card into 2 4gb spaces?  Would I be able to format the 1st partition in FAT16 mode and force it to be bootable?

Does anyone know if I can change the location of where CHDK will write the images to the 2nd partition?

I have been using 4Gb Non-HC SD cards formatted at FAT16 for my Powershot S80 fine but my SD cards are started to die and
replacements are hard to find.

Thanks for any help!
