Installing CHDK (non-autoboot) on a 8GB Eye-Fi card?

Hi all, I've been trying for the last few hours to install CHDK on an 8GB Eye-Fi card for my S95.

If I understand correctly, all the stuff about Fat16 and partitions is only if you need autoboot, right? I don't care about that, I'm fine manually loading it each time. The Eye-Fi card is currently FAT32.

So I thought it would be as simple as downloading the appropriate folder and dragging just the CHDK folder and the PS.FI2 file (not sure if that's needed) onto the Eye-Fi card. However, when I do this I don't see the "Firm Update" option anywhere in the camera's menu.

I used Stuffit to unzip the downloaded folder on my Mac, and confirmed (using ls -ls) that there were no weird "@" security permissions.

Is this possible? I'd really love to get this to work, and have been tearing out my hair...

Did you turn on the cam by preview button instead of turn_on? Or if this cam has only one button did you turn it on in preview mode?

That was it! I had actually just worked that out and coming back here to say I had solved it.

The S95 doesn't have a play mode on the dial, so I didn't know there was any way to turn it on in preview mode. However, I found that if I turn it on while holding onto the Play button, and then let go of the play button within a second (or else it doesn't really turn on) then it starts in Preview Mode, and the Firm Update menu item was there!

YAAAAAY! So happy. Wish I had worked this out at 1:00 am last night, I would have gone to bed much happier...

Sound like you are still working too hard.  Just press the Play button by itself.  That will start the camera in playback mode - suitable for firmware update booting.

No, that doesn't work on the S95. The play button doesn't turn on the camera, only the on/off button does. However, as I discovered by playing around with it a bunch, holding down the play button while pressing on/off will start it in playback mode (though sometimes it takes a couple tries).

Sorry SamSam, but my s95 starts when you press and hold the playback button (both when the card is locked and when it isn't).
