Trouble running var.reg on SD450

Hello everyone, i am new to this and made a var.reg rile using TextEdit on a PC and moved that file to my SD root location. When i hit "funct/set" and "disp" together nothing happens, holding for several seconds. any reason for this? i am following the directions on the FAQ page to a t, i hope!

Might be its because the correct filename is ver.req ?

In any case,  I'd recommend using ACID to determine your firmware version and then follow the instructions here : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card
