Build 49: issues while using with s3is

1. While using Build 49, my camera s3is hangs and shuts down occasionally while using custom AutoIso feature. This happens when I zoom in or out to extreme FL. After restarting the camera behaves normally.

2. The user menu disappears or does not appear sometimes when using the short cut key when set On Direct.

3. The camera does not go higher than  1.6" s when using custom AutoIso feature.

4. At HI iso the maximum iso shown in the exif data is 1499, when Max ISO HI is set to 1000.

1. May be in this circumstances?
A650 with Build 46, 47
3.AutoISO feature depends on exposure parameters that were set by camera firmware in current mode and on User AutoISO settings
4.You see "market" ISO value  in EXIF whereas "real" ISO is set via AutoISO parameters

Same problems found on G7

Thanks Allbest,

Regarding point 1., I will again try to recreate the circumstances in which camera hangs, then I shall report.

Re. point 3., I have used all parametees in User AutoISO settings. Still it does not go beyond 1.6".

Re. point 4., what I have mentioned is real ISO which were converted with  "Auto CHDK to EXIF v1.2" and recorded in exif data. For s3is the ISO range recorded is from 39 to 1499. I have not checked with histogram method (it was mentioned elsewhere in the forum) as I am not very familiar with this method.

It is because of firmware limitations of maximal shutter speed in Auto,P and Av modes (In these modes Auto(hi) ISO functionality is accessible). AutoISO values are calculated in dependence of current firmware exposure parameters in this mode...

"Auto CHDK to EXIF" operates with "market" ISO values from Maker Notes section of Exif as said Barney Fife

Thanks Barney Fife & Allbest,

I think I have understood what you mean. If you go through my original post (Point 4), I mentioned that I had requested s3is through CHDK to use Max ISO HI to 1000. Maker Notes show 1499.

Regarding point 1., I recreated the circumstances in which camera hangs. Auto ISO enabled. Camera turned on. After taking 3 or 4 exposures when I zoomed out to 6mm FL It hung and shut with the lens in the out position. When I restarted the camera it started with first lens retracting and then extending again as in the normal startup but with more than normal sound (at the time of retraction). Considering this now I have stopped using Auto ISO as I do not want to miss any shots due to this sudden shutdowns (I don't know if this is my camera specific). I will miss this excellent feature.

What about flash state in time of hanging up?

Hello Allbest and Barney Fife,

It seems that there is a bug in my s3is as I had a doubt. Even without CHDK it hangs as explained. Thanks for taking time to explain things to me personally. Through this forum I have learned a lot on digital imaging, being hardcore analog imager all along since last forty years. s3is is my first digital camera. I hope this bug will not affect my images (as of now it is behaving OK other than what I have mentioned). I do not have any complaint about images. I shall continue to use CHDK till my camera dies.
