Can someone help a newbie with the code, or where to find it, to program my A490 to take a photo every 30 seconds?

I think I need to upload an LUA file?

Its already installed on your camera when you loaded CHDK.   Look for a script file called interval.bas (or interval.lua if you want to use the LUA version),

I like the idea of that, it's for a balloon project so the intervalometer option looks favourable.  If I'm correct I can set a time before the time lapse images start taking?

There are quite a few balloon project threads - search for balloon in the forum.  Lots of good learnings there - no sense re-inventing the wheel.   Clever things like changing exposure with altitude,  locking focus,  switching between video and picture mode ....
