bad magicnum?

Hi all - first post.

PowerShot SD700 IS. Got firmware & file to download from acid. It wouldn't download file automatically. Went to downloads page and found slightly newer version. Installed it using licks. Camera works - alt works. Many menu selections do nothing but issue "Failed to load <something> flt... bad magicnum." I have been unable to find anything on the forums or the net that refers to this problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You must copy the complete content of the downloaded zip file to the sd card.

The error message says, CHDK needs some module files on the sd card. Check if the directory CHDK / MODULES is present.

and the CHDK folder:
Code: [Select]

"Failed to load <something> flt... bad magicnum."
When updating to a newer release, also update the modules (i.e. the files in the "modules" folder).

Thanks. This is the first time I've done this so I'm not sure it was upgrading as such. Also acid tried to download this file 'ixus800_sd700-101a-1.1.0-2357-full.zip' but it failed and wasn't in the downloads area so I used this one 'ixus800_sd700-101a-1.1.0-2359-full.zip' which looked like the same thing but newer.
FWIW here's the ls of the MODULES folder:
Code: [Select]
4wins.flt
benchm.flt
calend.flt
CFG
curves.flt
_dng.flt
edgeovr.flt
fselect.flt
grids.flt
mastmind.flt
mdetect.flt
memview.flt
modinsp.flt
modmenu.flt
mpopup.flt
_osd_le.flt
palette.flt
_rawop10.flt
_rawop12.flt
reversi.flt
snake.flt
sokoban.flt
sudoku.flt
_tbox.flt
tetris.flt
txtread.flt
zebra.flt

Just checked FW in CHDK menu and it says 101b. Looks like I used 101a. Could acid have got it wrong? Guess I should retry using CHDK for 101b?

Not needed, because:
- modules are camera independent

I see. Any idea where to go from here? Setting things seems to be OK but nothing from Miscellaneous Stuff or Scripting loads.

Hi Phil

I think I know why ACID didn't work. ACID reads the lists from the various build sites and when you ask it to download a build it then tries to download it. However if there's a time gap between ACID reading the list and you asking for a download it's possible that during that time gap the autobuild process has created a new build. That's what happened in your case. When ACID read the list the current build was 2357 but by the time you asked it to download the current build was 2359.

This is a rare problem - you have to be running ACID at the time that the autobuild process is running, but it has happened once before.

I looked to see if there was an easy way I could detect the problem, but didn't think there was. I'll take another look.

Well it wasn't really a problem - I used the file info provided by ACID and manually downloaded the newer one then used LICKS to install it. Just that now CHDK won't load any files if I try to do something with it that needs a file loaded.

Probably not related but this camera seems to have no 'start without being turned on' capacity but loads CHDK anyway when I turn it on 'normally' in play mode or picture taking mode.
