Camera Locks Up After Exposure

I installed CHDK on a Canon A570 IS. Now, whenever I take a picture, the screen goes blank and the camera is unresponsive to controls (zoom, shutter release, buttons, etc.) for approximately 11 seconds. It didn't used to do this; I had control of the camera and could take another picture immediately after snapping a photo. What's going on?

Thanks.

Have you enabled 'synch' mode by mistake ?

It is used with a USB switch and waits for switch release or times-out after ten seconds.

If he did, that should only be a problem if the camera was connected to a computer (or other 5V source) while he was trying to shoot.  Sync only waits while there is 5V at the USB connector.

My guess is that he has RAW/DNG enabled.

Disabled RAW and DNG. Camera still goes dead for 11 seconds after exposure.

Something called "Delayed Single Shot" is enabled. Could this be it? I can't find how to disable this in the CHDK docs. Why would CHDK come with this enabled?

The camera is not connected to a computer.

I don't believe that's anything that CHDK does.  How do you know its enabled?

If its an OSD thing,  does the message dissappear when you turn off the CHDK OSD?

Or is it the name of a script you might have loaded?  If so the messages will appear in the lower left hand corner of the screen and will only do something when you press the shutter button while in CHDK's <ALT> mode.   If you shoot in normal camera mode,  it would not be a script causing the delay.

It didn't do this until I loaded CHDK.

I have not explicitly loaded any other scripts. The message does appear in the lower left corner.

Try going into the scripting menu and loading a different script ?  See if the text changes.

Also,   you didn't answer my question about whether you are pressing the shutter button in <ALT> mode or in regular shooting mode.  What happens either way?

It doesn't. "delayed single shot" is the title of some example scripts that come with CHDK. You must have selected this yourself at some point.

If you are in alt mode, pressing the shutter runs the currently selected script. If you want to run a different script, select it. If you just want to shoot, leave alt mode.

edit:
If you are encountering the problem when not in alt mode, then it's unrelated to the fact you have this script selected.

Another thing that can cause the camera to appear to lock up after a shot is the Canon automatic dark frame. This should only happen for long exposures (> a few seconds), and the time the camera is locked up is equal to the exposure time.

Don't forget what the H stands for.

All I did was load CHDK on an A590 IS, stock settings, no monkeying around with scripts, just a plain vanilla installation in the hope of getting raw output.

I have removed CHDK so my camera would be functional again without this 11-second delay. I may yet try it again.

Where did you get the CHDK install file from and what is it's filename?
