I reloaded CHDK using "stick" which performed the download. With a clean installation, the 11-second delay is no longer happening.

If memory serves, I was trying to write a raw file and using CHDK's +1 or +2 EV setting. Running both scripts simultaneously may have bogged the camera down.

Unlikely but thank you for looking for reasons.

Both functions are part of the built-in CHDK functionality and not related to "scripts".  They happen at different times in the shooting sequence and thus can't overload the camera's processor due to running simultaneously.

All I know is that without those two options in effect, i.e. a clean installation, the camera is responsive once more.

So now that you have done a clean install, what happens if you re-enable RAW and Ev adjust ?
