I'm surprised that though you found and downloaded my ACID app, you didn't notice that I also wrote SDMINST - a Mac app that will install CHDK or SDM for you - see http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/clickpansdm/sdminst.html

It does all the hard work for you including handling cameras like the s100 that will boot from FAT32.

I would have used that, but I was working on a Mac. EOScard appears to be Windows-specific.

Thank you for writing those apps!

I did see references to SDMINST, but it wasn't immediately clear to me as a CHDK newbie that it would work for the S100. I wasn't clear on what DryOS was or whether I had it. It now seems clearer after reading your link and the list of cameras and OSes. Thanks.

I had quite a bit of difficulty getting CHDK working on my S100. I'd previously got it working on the S90, but you can use the firmware update method on that, so it was pretty easy.

I started by trying the EOSCard method, as described on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card
However, EOSCard seems to write BOOTDISK to the wrong location. Took me a while to work this out. (see attached image)

I then used the HxD method - AJMexico's image shows the correct bytes to edit using a Hex Editor

Once the card is set up correctly, my camera takes a lot longer to boot. I have to hold the on or play buttons for close to 3 seconds, compare with just a push for normal startup.

Finally, the S100 has no ALT or PRINT buttons. The CHDK mode button is the PLAY button - ideally would have been the RING FUNC button, as it's redundant. As a result, it's difficult to switch from shoot to play mode. The only way I've discovered is to half press the shutter, then press play while holding it half pressed.

Hope these help other S100 users.

Thanks for posting that image. That is definitely wrong - as you noticed.

That's not normal either. Hopefully other s100 owners can comment.

CHDK supports the ability to have a user defined ALT button - but somebody has to enable that function in each camera port.

Usually you touch the Play button quickly for ALT mode, or hold it down for about a second to get the original function of the Play button.

I too have come to this error where I downloaded the stable CHDK (5 files CHDK folder, changelog, diskboot.bin, readme and the Vers.req. I used ACIDs program and found that my S100 is firmware 1.01B. After I took these group of 5 folders in the root directory of my formatted 8 Gb secure Digital SDHC card, and then inserted into my camera. I pressed the play button to start it up, used the menu key to go down to where firmware update button should be, and it did not pop up. Another gentlemen had the same issue where I believe it was recommended to use the EOScard.exe, so I tried that and still to no avail. I did notice however, there is no SF.IF2 or some other file that allows the camera to read these files in the boot menu? I am stumped, not sure if I am missing a file or if I am doing something incorrectly. Any help would surely be apprecaited!

Per this page : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/S100 the s100 does not support the firmware update method. Which is what you were apparently trying to do.

You need to use the SD Card Lock method as described here : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card#For_Cameras_Released_After_2010_:

Okay, and just to re-confirm, this is doing a firmware update directly onto my camera then or not? I am very new to this and just want to make sure that my camera isn't going to mess up. The biggest thing I wanted was the extra manual settings for Fstop, shutter speed and ISO. Thank you for your patience and have a great day!

CHDK is always loaded temporarily from the SD card, no matter what loading method you use. Reformatting the card and rebooting the camera will completely remove CHDK. Regarding messing up your camera, see this FAQ http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._Can_CHDK_damage_your_camera.C2.A0.3F

Your s100 already has manual controls, so the main thing you will get is a wider range of shutter speeds, and possibly a marginal increase in aperture range. CHDK overrides do not generally extend the range of ISO, they just give you control in some situations where you wouldn't normally have it.
