The SX50HS can with Canon and their native raw,  I was wondering if it is possible for the SX40 with chdk.
They both have the same Sony? cmos sensor.

More mistaken than interesting.

CHDK raw (including DNG) uses the data straight from the sensor framebuffer, at whatever bit depth the Canon hardware created it. For SX40, this is 12 bpp. For older cameras (mostly pre-digic IV), it's 10 bpp. For the G1 X, it's 14 bpp.

I've posted a clarification over there...
Don't forget what the H stands for.
