S3 + CHDK #49 - Shortcut button issue

Try this:

- register shortcut button as AFL (autofocus lock)
- press shortcut button slightly longer to activate AFL
- half press the shutter

All OSD elements gone. They are back after you make the shot, or if you switch to review mode.
At first I though it's a bug, but as it's a way to temporary switch off the OSD, is it maybe intentional feature ?

I accidentaly found this, when I was looking for less harmful function for shortcut (to avoid change of some setting by accident - for example resolution, instead of activating alt mode). As you said, MF button does a similar thing. I'll probably assign "LCD off" to shortcut
