Extra fast shutter speed

Does anyone know how fast I can safely push a S95 shutter faster than the canon limit of 1/1600 sec.

I understand it may be aperture dependent.

I wish to access these faster speeds in a script via set_tv96.

Cheers

If by "safely" you mean "not damage the camera"... I'm not aware of any suggestion that a camera has been damaged by requesting high shutter speeds. Of course, there is no guarantee, you could be the first ;)

If you mean "how fast can I go and reliably get the the requested shutter speed", experiment is probably the best way to get a useful answer.

Here's an unscientific test I did with my a540

These were all taken at F8.

You'll want to use set_tv96_direct to go outside of the normal canon range.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks for the quick response. I, of course, meant reliably.

Also thanks for the pointer regarding using Tv96 direct.

Cheers
