To change the darkness of the .dng's, I went to 'enhanced photo operations' chose to override flash power and set it to max.  I got really great pictures, but I worry about how long the flash will last.  There are 3 settings, minimum, medium, and maximum.

Thank you, so much, much better on "M", though the images are much darker than they should be.
DNG images are exactly what your camera sensor produces.  Normally, the image processing software in your camera adjusts that image - correcting for lens distortion, color, white balance etc prior to compressing it into a JPG file.  CHDK does no such processing on the DNG image - when its says raw,  its means raw.  So you images are not darker than they should be - they are just what the sensor produces.

I understand why the images were dark, that's why I made the adjustments to the flash settings.  Just trying to explain, in case someone else had this experience, how to get around it.
